What it does
BarcodeDesk turns a value you type into a real, scannable barcode — instantly, entirely in your browser. There's no queue, no account to create, and no watermark stamped across the result. Type a value, pick a format, download a PNG.
How the encoding actually works
Every format runs through a real encoder — JsBarcode for the linear symbologies and bwip-js for the 2D and GS1-128 symbols. An independent round-trip decode suite includes Interleaved 2 of 5 and Aztec Code alongside the established formats. UPC-E remains the one format without the same automated decode coverage because of a limitation in the independent decoder. Test a physical print with your own scanner before a high-volume run.
For formats with a check digit — EAN-13, UPC-A, ITF-14, and GTINs inside GS1-128 — BarcodeDesk calculates it using the real GS1 mod-10 algorithm rather than trusting whatever you typed. If you enter a full value with the wrong check digit, it tells you the expected one instead of silently generating a barcode that won't scan correctly.

Barcode types that aren't live yet stay clearly marked as such — BarcodeDesk would rather tell you a format isn't ready than fake the output.
Why the free tool stays free
Generating a single barcode is a solved problem that shouldn't require an account or a watermark. The individual generator is free, permanently, for anyone. The paid side of BarcodeDesk — bulk CSV/Excel generation and printable label sheets — is built for a genuinely different problem: turning a spreadsheet of hundreds or thousands of rows into named, print-ready files in one pass. Uploading, mapping columns, and previewing is free too; exporting the full batch is a one-time purchase — see pricing for details.
Privacy by construction
Barcode generation happens entirely client-side. Values you type into the generator are never uploaded to a server — there's nothing to upload to, since the encoding runs in your browser's own JavaScript engine. Read the Privacy Policy for the specifics, including the one exception: the contact form, which is designed to send you an email and does exactly that.
What BarcodeDesk doesn't do
BarcodeDesk encodes the identifiers you give it. It does not issue, register, or verify official UPC, EAN, or GS1 identification numbers — those come from GS1 or your product's original issuer. See the Disclaimer for the full detail on that boundary.
