BarcodeDesk is a barcode image generator, not a barcode-number issuer
BarcodeDesk turns a value you provide into a real, correctly-encoded barcode image or file. It does not issue, register, or verify official UPC, EAN, or GS1 identification numbers. If you have a number like 012345678905, BarcodeDesk will generate the correct corresponding barcode — but that doesn't make it an officially registered product identifier. Official GS1 numbers are obtained from GS1 or your product's original issuer, not generated here.
Check digits are calculated, not verified against a registry
For formats like EAN-13, UPC-A, and ITF-14, BarcodeDesk calculates the mathematically correct check digit for whatever payload you enter. That confirms the barcode is internally consistent and will decode back to the value you intended — it does not confirm that the underlying number is a real, registered product in any database.
Scan reliability depends on how you print it
Every format BarcodeDesk supports is verified with an independent, round-trip decode test at generation time — the barcode is real and correctly encoded. But whether a printed copy scans reliably also depends on factors BarcodeDesk doesn't control: print resolution, paper and ink quality, label size, and the scanner or app reading it. BarcodeDesk warns you in the generator when a chosen display size would compress a barcode below a safe, scannable density — take that warning seriously, and test a printed sample with a real scanner before using barcodes for production or compliance purposes.
