An SVG describes bars and modules as shapes rather than a fixed pixel grid. It can be scaled up for a design file without the soft edges that appear when a small PNG is enlarged. The export is the barcode artwork itself, so you can place it in software that accepts SVG.
Scalable does not mean arbitrarily small. A scanner still needs enough physical width, clear contrast, and empty quiet space around the symbol. Test at the actual print size and material. Preserve proportions; making a code narrower without scaling its height the same way distorts the symbol.
